SMM Basics
In this course, you'll learn how social media marketing actually works in 2026 — choosing the right platform, building genuine audience, what content gets traction, and how to convert followers into customers without falling into vanity metrics traps.
About this course
Social media marketing has become the default channel for many businesses — and the source of the most wasted marketing effort. Most “SMM strategies” produce vanity metrics (followers, likes) without business results. Most “SMM courses” teach tactics that worked in 2020 and don’t anymore. This course is different.
You’ll learn how social platforms actually work in 2026 (which is dramatically different from 2020), how to pick the right platform for YOUR business, what content actually drives results, how to build a posting cadence you can sustain, and how to turn social followers into actual customers. We cover the platforms most relevant for business (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) at a strategic level — the next course in this series goes deep on Instagram specifically.
We’re honest about the realities: social media has gotten harder over the past few years. Organic reach has declined. Algorithms favor different content than they used to. AI-generated content has flooded most platforms. What worked easily before now takes real strategy and consistent execution. The good news: those willing to do it properly still win.
This course assumes you’ve taken “Introduction to Digital Marketing” or have equivalent foundational understanding (customer journey, channel selection framework, basic metrics). If those concepts feel unfamiliar, start there first.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for:
Business owners and freelancers who chose social media as one of their marketing channels
People who’ve tried social media marketing casually and want to do it strategically
Marketers responsible for company social media presence
Content creators looking to use social as a primary growth channel
Anyone tired of generic “post 3x daily and engage with your audience” advice
Career switchers moving into marketing roles requiring SMM knowledge
You should have basic familiarity with at least one social platform as a user. You don’t need to be a power user. Foundational marketing concepts (customer journey, channels, metrics) should be familiar — take “Introduction to Digital Marketing” first if not.
How does the learning work?
This course is structured to build practical skill:
Strategic lessons (10–15 minutes)
Each lesson covers one key aspect of SMM with realistic examples and clear principles.
Platform-agnostic principles, platform-specific notes
The fundamentals apply across platforms; we note where specific platforms differ.
Honest about 2026 realities
We cover what’s actually changed, what works now, and what’s stopped working — without nostalgia for what worked years ago.
Sustainable cadence over heroic effort
We focus on patterns you can maintain for years, not 30-day sprints.
Conversion thinking from the start
Most SMM courses focus on growth; we focus on growth that leads to business results.
